More Ways 2 Show Kids You Care

Maintain active SOCIAL engagement with your FIRE students every day in some way.  Choose one or two new items below to use this week with each FIRE student.  Make time for each student.

  1. Read aloud together.
  2. Giggle together.
  3. Be nice.
  4. Say yes a lot.
  5. Tell them their feelings are okay.
  6. Set boundaries that keep them safe.
  7. Be honest.
  8. Be yourself.
  9. Listen to their stories.
  10. Hug them.
Daily Routine in FIRE

No travel this week in FIRE.  Last chance to interact extensively.  Reinforce FIRE class expectations and routines. Help the rest of the semester go more smoothly.

F Teacher- share expectations for FIRE behavior
o   Create seating assignments
o   Clarify attendance requirement
F Daily materials check:  agendas, binders, etc.
F Develop a “check out” procedure for travel
o   Passes or signed agendas
o   List name & destination on board/form
F Role model appropriate behavior/activities
o   Don’t be a “social butterfly”

Help Develop Assets in Your Students

Developmental Assets are positive experiences and qualities - positive things all young people need to grow up healthy and responsible - that all of us have the power to bring into the lives of our students. 
External Asset Category 2 - EMPOWERMENT
Young people need to feel valued and valuable. This happens when youth feel safe and respected.
·         Community values youth
o    Perceives that adults in the community value youth
·         Youth as resources
o    Given useful roles in the community
·         Service to others
o    Serves in the community one hour or more per week
·         Safety
o    Feels safe at home, at school, and in the neighborhood


Share your experiences with community service with your FIRE students.  Describe how your service affects you in a positive way.
