More Ways 2 Show Kids You Care

Use SOCIAL engagement with your FIRE students every day to increase positive interaction.  Choose one or two new items below to use this week with each FIRE student. 

  1. Forget your worries sometimes and concentrate only on them.
  2. Notice when they are acting differently.
  3. Present options when they seek your counsel.
  4. Play outside together.
  5. Surprise them.
  6. Stay with them when they’re afraid.
  7. Invite them over for juice.
  8. Suggest better behaviors when they act out.
  9. Feed them when they’re hungry.
  10. Delight in their discoveries.
Travel During FIRE

Travel begins next Wednesday during FIRE.  Make sure students understand your “Expectations & Guidelines” for travel.  Also, make sure that other FIRE routines stay in place and are respected.

F 1st day of FIRE each week – Grade checks, weekly plans, group discussion or fun activity
o   Keep “Fun Tuesdays” going
F Attendance & seating
F Daily materials checks
F Peer tutoring as needed
F “Check out” procedures for travel
F Students held accountable for being on-task
F Appropriate behavior and interaction
F Crew models appropriate behavior/activities
o   Don’t be a “social butterfly”

Help Develop Assets in Your Students

Developmental Assets are positive experiences and qualities that all of us have the power to bring into the lives of our students. 
External Asset Category 3 –BOUNDARIES & EXPECTATIONS
Young people need clear rules, consistent consequences for breaking rules, and encouragement to do their best.

o    Clear rules & consequences; monitors whereabouts

o    Clear rules & consequences
·         Neighborhood Boundaries
o    Take responsibility for monitoring young people’s behaviors

o    Parent(s) and teachers encourage young person to do well
